MAKASSAR – The Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University (FKM Unhas), has once again solidified its position as a leading health education institution in Eastern Indonesia. In a historic milestone marking a significant academic leap, FKM Unhas officially admitted 194 new students for the Postgraduate programs (Master’s and Doctoral) and welcomed the very first batch of the Dietitian Professional Education Program for the Second Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
The admission ceremony was conducted through the New Student Campus Life Introduction (PKKMB) event, held solemnly at the Prof. Dr. Ir. Fachruddin Auditorium, Unhas Graduate School, on Wednesday (Feb 25). This event was more than just a routine ceremony; it symbolized FKM Unhas’s readiness to produce professional health practitioners capable of competing on a global stage.
Academic Transformation and the Pioneer Batch of Professional Dietitians
A major highlight of this intake is the commencement of classes for the inaugural batch of the Dietitian Professional Education Program. The establishment of this program is a direct response to the urgent need for nutrition experts (dietitians) who possess certified clinical and managerial competencies.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FKM Unhas emphasized that the opening of the Dietitian Professional program is the result of a rigorous accreditation process and adherence to quality standards set by LAM-PTKes. As the pioneer batch, these students are expected to be trailblazers who will elevate the standards of nutritional services in hospitals, health institutions, and the food industry across Indonesia.

The total of 194 admitted students represents diverse regional and institutional backgrounds, comprising 37 male and 157 female students. This composition reflects the high public interest, particularly among women, in pursuing advanced studies in public health and nutrition.
Global Vision and Educational Quality
FKM Unhas remains committed to providing international-standard education. With a curriculum continuously updated to align with developments in Science and Technology (IPTEK) and global labor market demands, postgraduate students are encouraged not only to master theory but also to become sharp in policy analysis and health research.
This strategic step aligns with Hasanuddin University’s vision as a World Class University. At FKM, students gain access to cutting-edge laboratories, partnership networks with international hospitals, and guidance from highly qualified faculty members with world-renowned research reputations.
A Concrete Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The admission of new postgraduate and professional students at FKM Unhas is closely linked to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, regarding SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, the role of FKM graduates is crucial in strengthening national health systems and reducing mortality rates through targeted public health interventions.
Furthermore, the presence of the inaugural Professional Dietitian batch directly supports SDG 2: Zero Hunger, which includes improving nutrition and food security. These future dietitians are trained to address issues of malnutrition, stunting, and degenerative diseases caused by poor dietary habits. Through this education, FKM Unhas contributes to ensuring equitable and high-quality health access for all levels of society, fostering a healthy and productive “Golden Generation.”
Facing Future Health Challenges
The health sector today faces increasingly complex challenges, ranging from the threat of future pandemics to the double burden of malnutrition. FKM Unhas postgraduate students are prepared to become leaders and policymakers capable of providing evidence-based solutions.
The Doctoral Program (S3) in Public Health at Unhas focuses on developing innovations and new theories, while the Master’s Program (S2) emphasizes managerial and specific technical mastery in fields such as Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Occupational Health and Safety (K3), and Health Policy Administration. Through the synergy between Master’s, Doctoral, and Professional education, FKM Unhas creates a comprehensive academic ecosystem.
Supporting Facilities and Ecosystem
During their education at FKM Unhas, students will be supported by adequate facilities, ranging from digital libraries with access to prestigious international journals to study centers actively involved in community service. The inclusive and dynamic campus environment in Makassar also provides a unique learning experience for students coming from outside Sulawesi.
Faculty leadership also reminded students of the importance of academic integrity and interdisciplinary collaboration. In the current era, health issues cannot be solved by a single discipline alone. Therefore, postgraduate students are encouraged to collaborate across departments to produce research that has a broad impact on human welfare.
Conclusion: Hopes for the New Students
The admission of these 194 students is the first step in a long journey toward a meaningful professional career. FKM Unhas hopes that the new students will quickly adapt to the Unhas academic culture, which promotes the values of “Maritim”: Humanist, Wise, Religious, Integrity, Tough, Innovative, and Independent.
With the joining of this new cohort, FKM Unhas is optimistic about continuing its significant contribution to improving the degree of public health in Indonesia and the world. Welcome to the public health warriors and future professional dietitians at the Red Campus, Hasanuddin University.
