MAKASSAR – The Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University (FKM Unhas), continues to demonstrate its steadfast commitment to supporting the university’s vision of becoming a World Class University. This concrete step was realized through the “Workshop on Increasing Hasanuddin University’s Global Ranking,” coupled with the formal signing of the 2026 Performance Agreements. Held at the Unhas Hotel & Convention on Tuesday (10/02/2026), this event marks a significant milestone for FKM Unhas in mapping out strategies to achieve international targets.
Synergy Towards International Reputation
This workshop was more than just a routine meeting; it was a strategic consolidation to align the movements of the entire FKM Unhas academic community with the global targets set by Hasanuddin University. In his opening remarks, the Dean of FKM Unhas, Prof. Sukri Palutturi, SKM., M.Kes., MSc.PH., Ph.D., emphasized that a global reputation is no longer an option but a necessity for higher education institutions in the modern era.
“FKM Unhas possesses extraordinary potential, both in terms of human resources and research output. Through this workshop, we want to ensure that every contribution we make is measurable and has an international impact. The signing of this performance agreement is a testament to our collective promise and commitment to achieving these ambitious targets,” stated Prof. Sukri.
The strategy to improve global rankings encompasses several Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ranging from increasing the quality of publications in reputable journals (Scopus Q1 and Q2) and strengthening international research networks to enhancing employer reputation and academic reputation in the eyes of the global community.
Focus on Performance and Quality Publications
A primary focus of this activity was the emphasis on enhancing the quality of scientific publications. FKM Unhas is targeting a surge in publications within the Q1 journal category by 2026. This aligns with the university’s policy to move beyond mere quantity, focusing instead on impact (citations) and the novelty of the knowledge produced by lecturers and researchers.
The signing of the Performance Agreement, conducted by the faculty leadership, department heads, and unit coordinators, serves as legal proof of this commitment. With this agreement in place, every unit holds a clear responsibility in supporting the university’s Main Performance Indicators (IKU), particularly those related to internationalization and global engagement.
Real Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
FKM Unhas’s efforts to elevate its global reputation are closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, strengthening health education and research institutions contributes directly to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. By producing high-quality, evidence-based research, FKM Unhas provides data-driven solutions for public health issues at both local and global levels.
Furthermore, by improving the quality of education and fostering international collaborations, FKM Unhas supports SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Synergies with partner universities abroad facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technology, which is crucial for addressing future health challenges such as climate change and global pandemics. The commitment shown by FKM Unhas in this workshop is a tangible manifestation of creating a sustainable and inclusive academic ecosystem.
Facing Global Challenges in 2026
Entering 2026, the challenges in higher education are becoming increasingly complex. Intense competition among universities worldwide demands rapid adaptation to the latest technologies and research methodologies. FKM Unhas recognizes that to remain relevant, the faculty must transform into a center of excellence for public health in the Asia-Pacific region.
The workshop also invited experts in university rankings to provide insights into the assessment criteria of international agencies such as the QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education (THE). By understanding these indicators, FKM Unhas is expected to optimize its existing resources to meet global expectations.
Future Expectations and Sustainability
Through this consolidation, FKM Unhas hopes to maintain and surpass the achievements of previous years. The spirit of “One Family, One Goal,” which has been the faculty’s motto, continues to be nurtured to ensure that all parties—lecturers, administrative staff, and students—are actively involved in the journey toward the pinnacle of global reputation.
A ranking improvement is not just a number on paper; it is a representation of the quality of educational services and the benefits the faculty provides to the wider community. With the strong commitment signed today, FKM Unhas is optimistic about serving as a primary pillar in bringing Hasanuddin University to the ranks of the best universities in the world.
